Arts in Education

Arts In Education is a program that brings professional performing artists to all Greenville and Darke County school children, grades K through 12.  The artists also frequently appear in area retirement homes as continuing education and outreach programming.  Funding is provided through the Ohio Arts Council, the schools, DCCA memberships, local businesses, clubs, foundations and trusts.

2008-2009 Schedule

September 8-12          Doug Berky - No Show

                                   For grades 4 through 6

A performance has been scheduled but the actor fails to show - or does he?  What might happen when a lone spectator unwittingly finds himself on stage and explores the props and masks left there?  Take an empty stage with a captive audience and introduce the mask/mime/circus antics of a passing fool and you have an hour of uproarious entertainment. 

 

October 1-2                David Kaplan - The Great Kaplan

                                   For grades 7 and 8

The Great Kaplan is a skilled juggler, magician, inventor, musician, physical comedian - all wrapped up in one eccentric performer.  Kaplan's preposterous blend of dazzling skill and shameless gimmickry will amaze amuse, and inspire creativity. 

 

November 11-14        Quartet San Francisco - Adventures in Music

                                   For grades 9 through 12

 

Classically trained, eclectic QSF delivers a wide range of musical information including classical string quartet fare, original arrangements of jazz, tango, Disney and cartoon music.  Quartet members reveal how a string quartet puts together a piece of music; demonstrate the diverse techniques of performing tango, Latin, jazz and classical music; and discuss the history of the music they perform. 

 

March 2-6                  Mark Dvorak - Old Songs & New People

                                  For grades K through 3

Known by his peers as the folk singer’s folk singer, Dvorak follows in the footsteps of classic icons Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, and Big Bill Broonzy.   His interactive folk music program can make an old song sound new and a new song sound familiar.
